The XI | West Chelsea

The XI towers in New York will “dance” with each other, says Bjarke Ingels. The pair of towers it is building beside New York’s High Line, which architect Bjarke Ingels says are shaped out of “mutual courtesy” for one another’s views.

The XI development - also known as The Eleventh - is currently rising from a full city block between the city’s Chelsea neighborhood and Meatpacking District. With the Hudson River to the west, and the High Line and the rest of Manhattan unfolding to the east, BIG’s primary concern is that the two towers do not block each other’s views of either. Therefore, both are shaped asymmetrically so that they twist out of the way.

Tower No. X (East Tower) features 87 unique residences with custom interiors by renowned Parisian firm Gilles & Boissier, all sitting above the 137 key Six Senses New York – recently named Travel + Leisure’s #1 hotel brand, and the best in class for 5 star hospitality, sustainability, and wellness.

Tower No. I (West Tower) features 149 unique residences with interiors by award-winning firm Gabellini Sheppard Associates. Both towers are accessed through private residential lobbies off the resplendent residents only Porte cochere and courtyard, framed travertine and lushly landscaped by Swiss landscape architect Enzo Enea.
